Face-to-face meeting between MINFOF and HYDROMINE COMPANY LIMITED

Minister Jules Doret Ndongo of the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife and the top management of the global energy development and sustainable company, Hydromine Limited have met in tete-a-tete in an audience in the MINFOF conference room to solicit the former to accompany them in their drive towards electrifying Cameroon through the use of power plants.

Assuring the seven-man delegation of MINFOF’s availability in assisting in such projects, Minister Jules Doret Ndongo highlighted the fact that all sectors ought to come together to improve living standards of Cameroonians bearing in mind the 3 axes of the NDS30 document which are: governance, economic growth and industrialization. For the latter to be effective, there must be electricity supply.

Speaking on behalf of his company, the CEO of Hydromine Prof. Ephraim Ngwafor said they have been exiting in Cameroon for 15years now and working in the field of generating electricity supply in concerned communities all in a bid to foster development in the country.

The current project which will cost some 700million US dollars, situated along the Sanaga River will generate at least 1000 megawatts of electricity. This makes the presence of MINFOF even more imperative as the biodiversity might be affected.

In response, the Director of Wildlife and Protected Areas, Mr. Lekealem Joseph said Hydromine in collaboration with MINFOF will have to carry out some sought of a census to ascertain the different wildlife species around the concerned area so as to absolutely protect them to avoid them going extinct if they are destroyed.

Prof Ngwafor assured MINFOF that there will be total community participation at every step of the project to get the complete approval rather than any eventual form of rejection of the project by the community.
