Minister Jules Doret Ndongo chairs 12th council session of INBAR in Beijing, China

The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife and outgoing chairman of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR), Jules Doret Ndongo has chaired the 12th session of the body at the headquarters if the institution in Beijing, China. The session, the first holding physically since after the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic, brought together both old and new members of the organization.

The session, which was also an event for Minister Jules Doret Ndongo to hand over the chairmanship to the Republic of Nepal, expressed sincere gratitude to the government of the People’s Republic of China for their unwavering support which played host to the organization. Thus handing over after being at the helm of the body since November 2019 and in spite of the covid-19 pandemic, he was still able to carry out projects. Some include the implementation of three bamboo projects in Cameroon, that is, the Inter-African program for strengthening the capacity of small bamboo producers in Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana and Madagascar, the South-South triangular cooperation and the restoration initiative.

There was also the opening of the INBAR Regional Office in Yaoundé, Cameroon; the adhesion of INBAR as partner into the Congo Basin Forest membership; the appointment of the Cameroon Ambassador to China into the Board of Trustees; the elaboration of an agroforestry manual for bamboo in Cameroon. There was equally the training of more than 3000 Cameroonians on the various technics of bamboo nursery; the opening of a production and transformation center of bamboo at Nkolbisson in Yaoundé.

Handing over, Minister Jules Doret Ndongo reminded the organization of his incessant support and determination to work endlessly with INBAR for the development of bamboo and to ensure Cameroon’s continuation in the Congo Basin forestry countries. He equally hailed the into chair from the Republic of Nepal and promised his unflinching assistance for the success of his tenure.
