Civil Society Gives Its Position On SIGIF2

The Minister of Forests and Wildlife Mr. Jules Doret Ndongo , chaired on Tuesday June 08, 2021 at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Wildlife Forests, the official presentation ceremony of the position paper Civil society organizations on the 2nd generation Forest Information Management Information System (SIGIF2). Initiated by a group of civil society organizations, under the banner of the PFN-REDD + CC platform, represented Mme Cécile NDJEBET , National Coordinator, this ceremony was the occasion of the Minister's hosts to make an official decision following the clear differences displayed by Cameroon's partners on the development of SIGIF 2. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) generally expressed their satisfaction with this tool while expressing the wish for a reconciliation of positions between the Cameroonian Government and the EU / Germany as well as the strengthening of the technical tool. This position is also that of Mme Cécile Ngomba , National Director of WWF Cameroon who, speaking as a technical partner, positioned herself as a mediator by advocating dialogue between the Government and its partners . Subsequently, the Minister presented SIGIF 2 "as an innovative tool, a catalyst for the dematerialization of logging procedures in Cameroon and the strengthening of sector governance". He appreciated this unprecedented approach for interlocutors accustomed to handling the chicotte. The head of department concluded his remarks not without expressing his "gratitude for the support of civil society in all segments of the sectoral activity. His contribution is a practical case of a partnership based on openness and mistrust but in pursuit of the common interest.
