The 20th Meeting of States Parties of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) currently taking place from June 03 to 05, 2024, in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo) with Cameroon being represented by the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Mr Jules Doret NDONGO.

During this session, partners with varied profiles discussed and worked on the main international, regional and national issues linked to the protection of biodiversity and the sustainable management of forest ecosystems in the Congo Basin, with a view to finding joint, innovative, cross-sectoral and sustainable solutions.

Cameroon, which took an active part in the conference, focused specifically on concerns linked to the problem of access to finance, noting that the Congo Basin, the main regulator of the global climate, should be able to benefit from privileged access to financing in proportion to the efforts made to combat climate disorders.

The representative of Cameroon also raised the issue of the injustices of climate finance, specifically the unequal access of the Congo Basin States to this financing, compared with the easy access of the Amazon Basin States.

In addition, Minister Jules Doret NDONGO deplored the lengthy procedures and conditions for access to financing imposed on African countries, even though they are forest holders. He equally stressed the need for riparian states to speak with one voice on the international stage on issues of common interest.

The CBFP was set up in 2002 and today brings together some 126 partners grouped into 7 colleges working together to protect biodiversity, manage the Congo Basin's forest ecosystems sustainably, combat climate change and reduce poverty in Central Africa.
