The outgoing European Union Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E Philippe Van Damme was today received in audience by the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Jules Doret Ndongo who has come to the end of his diplomatic mission to Cameroon.

The meeting was an opportunity for both personalities to take stock of the years which the ambassador spent in Cameroon. Minister Jules Doret Ndongo expressed gratitude and appreciation for the cordial working relation he had with the EU ambassador considering the important ties the country has with EU as a partner in terms of volume and means put in place as well as their presence in the Grand North, South and East regions which are worth commending.

The Forestry and Wildlife minister called on H.E Van Damme to be Cameroon’s ambassador and representative in his new station; to carry the country’s difficulties to any platform where he will be given the opportunity so as to bring solutions especially in the forestry and wildlife sub-sectors. He expressed the wish to continue in the same light with the in-coming ambassador for brighter years ahead for Cameroon.

On his part H.E Philippe Van Damme equally appreciated the Minister warm reception each time he requested for an audience and the long standing cooperation they have had with the ministry. He was grateful for the frank talks which they both held today which centred amongst others the way forward and to draw lessons from them so as combine the interest of Cameroonians who have the right to economic growth and development and their concerns on climate change.

Though at times they had divergent views on certain issues, the question remains the same, how to support sustainable development to the benefit of all. To this, H.E Van Damme said programs have launched which are landscape oriented which tries to combine the interests of all partners in the forestry and wildlife sub sectors in order to fine-tune ways to achieve the much desired sustainable development.

H.E Phillipe Van Damme leaves Cameroon on August 31, 2023.
